In a formula it soothes the skin and helps defend it against free radicals. As an active it is a supporting component. Plant antioxidants offer some protection against oxidative stress, but the effect in a cream is moderate and depends heavily on concentration. It does not replace better-documented antioxidants like vitamin C; it adds to them, without promising miracles. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential. Keep in mind that this is a botanical extract: people sensitized to forest berries could react, though most do not.
