Vaccinium Macrocarpon Fruit Extract is the extract from cranberry fruit. It provides vitamin C, flavonoids and proanthocyanidins, compounds with good antioxidant capacity. In cosmetics it is used to help defend the skin against oxidative stress and as a fruity image ingredient. As an active it is a supporting antioxidant. The polyphenol profile reasonably backs that role, though specific clinical data in cosmetics are limited and much derives from the fruit in general. It fits as a complement in antioxidant formulas rather than as their only active component. For topical use it is not meaningfully absorbed, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good: irritation and allergy potential are low, with no comedogenicity rating. It suits sensitive and oily skin. Being a botanical extract, an individual reaction is possible though uncommon, and its behaviour also depends on the rest of the formula and its concentration.
