A nourishing plant oil. Safe.
Vaccinium Myrtillus (Bilberry) Seed Oil (INCI: Vaccinium Myrtillus Seed Oil) is a plant oil high in linoleic and linolenic acids. In a formula it acts as an emollient and reinforces the lipid barrier, softening dry or tight skin. As a barrier oil it does its job well. Its value lies in the essential fatty acid profile, useful for skin with a weakened barrier. It is not an active that corrects pigmentation or wrinkles, but a nourishing supporting component within the formula. In pregnancy and breastfeeding it can be applied without restriction: a topical oil has no systemic effect. Tolerance is high and allergy risk low. Comedogenicity is very low (1), so it rarely bothers oily or acne-prone skin. Anyone allergic to berries should keep it in mind.
