Ganoderma Lucidum Stem Extract (reishi mushroom extract) supplies polysaccharides, mainly beta-glucans. In a formula it works as a soothing and hydrating component: the polysaccharides form a light film that holds water and softens the feel of the skin. As an active it is a supporting component with a coherent basis. Beta-glucans have reasonably documented hydrating and calming properties for reactive skin, though the effect of the whole extract depends on its concentration. It is useful for comfort and hydration, not a proven standalone anti-aging treatment. Topically the systemic contribution is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy, suitable for sensitive and reactive skin. It has no meaningful comedogenic profile, so it fits any skin type seeking calm and hydration.
