Garcinia Mangostana Peel Extract is the extract of mangosteen peel, rich in xanthones such as alpha-mangostin and in polyphenols. It's used in antioxidant and soothing serums and creams. On efficacy: there's in vitro evidence that xanthones scavenge free radicals and modulate inflammation, which supports its use as a supporting antioxidant. In practice it works as an adjunct: it adds to an antioxidant system alongside other ingredients but on its own doesn't replace a well-studied active like vitamin C. Strong anti-aging promises run ahead of the human data. Topical use during pregnancy and breastfeeding poses no problem. Tolerance is high, with low irritation and allergy potential. Suitable for sensitive skin. As a botanical extract, a patch test remains reasonable for very reactive skin.
