A saffron flower extract with carotenoids. It soothes and supports the skin's antioxidant defense. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A soothing antioxidant extract. Safe.
Saffron flower extract (INCI: Crocus Sativus Flower Extract) comes from the saffron plant and provides carotenoids such as crocin along with other compounds of antioxidant activity. In cosmetics it is used in serums and creams with a soothing and brightening focus. As an active it is a supporting component. There are preliminary studies on saffron and antioxidant or tone properties, but clinical evidence for a marked topical action on dark spots is still limited. It fits as part of a brightening formula without promising strong lightening on its own. Applied topically it has no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy risk, suitable for sensitive skin. As a colored plant extract, very sensitized skin could react occasionally, though that is uncommon.
