Ethylbisiminomethylguaiacol manganese chloride (INCI Ethylbisiminomethylguaiacol Manganese Chloride), known as EUK-134, is a synthetic manganese complex. It mimics the action of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase and catalase, so it helps neutralize free radicals and hydrogen peroxide in the skin. It enters the formula as an antioxidant active. On efficacy, it is an active with a plausible mechanism and in vitro data backing its antioxidant action. Clinical evidence in humans is still limited, so it is reasonable to expect support for antioxidant defense rather than a marked anti-aging effect. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Already-sensitized people may see an occasional reaction, though most do not.
