Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
An antioxidant plant extract. Safe.
Pinus Pinaster Bark Extract is the bark extract of the maritime pine, rich in polyphenols of the procyanidin group. In cosmetics it acts as an antioxidant: it helps neutralize free radicals and protect skin from the oxidative stress driven by light and pollution. Unlike many plant extracts, the basis here is firmer. The antioxidant capacity of maritime pine polyphenols is well documented in vitro, and topical use as antioxidant support is sound. It works best as a complement to photoprotection, not a replacement for sunscreen. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low, which makes it suitable for sensitive skin. In cosmetic formulas most people tolerate it with no reaction.
